Keyweb sells self-managed root virtual servers, dedicated physical servers, and shared webhosting for CMS and shop software, from data centers in Thuringia, Berlin and Frankfurt that the company built and runs itself rather than reselling capacity from another operator. The company was founded in Erfurt in 1997, and as the company’s milestones page states, Thuringia’s regional energy utility TEAG has held a majority stake in Keyweb since 2025.
Root and dedicated server customers choose their own operating system and get full root access, administering the machine themselves; a free KeyHelp control panel is included for server management but nothing is installed or maintained on the customer’s behalf at that tier. Shared webhosting plans sit apart from this: Keyweb pre-configures the environment and offers one-click installers for named CMS and shop software, with capacity, storage and domain count scaling by plan.

Keyweb’s data centers carry a TÜV Saarland audit that the data center page describes as modeled on ISO 27001 and ISO 27002 principles, rather than a standalone ISO 27001 certificate in its own right.
