FindHost

netcup

Karlsruhe-based provider selling low-priced webhosting, VPS and root servers from European, North American and Asian locations, part of the Anexia group.

Cheap, and the price stays.

netcup began as a sole proprietorship and became netcup GmbH in Karlsruhe in 2008. It has belonged to the Austrian Anexia group since 2016. Server locations are offered in Europe, North America and Asia, with a “no preference, somewhere in Europe” option for anyone who does not care where the machine sits.

Price is the defining characteristic, and so is the fact that it holds: the rate is fixed for the contract term rather than reverting to a higher standing price once an introductory period ends. A twelve-month term is offered alongside hourly billing with no minimum term at all. Root servers give full control of the machine; webhosting runs on Plesk with PHP on every tariff and documented support for Python, cron jobs and PHP extensions.

Support is by ticket and through an active customer forum rather than by phone, which is part of how the pricing works.

Worth knowing

Node.js and Ruby appear on the tariff comparison only from the larger webhosting plans upwards, and neither is covered in the help centre, so what is advertised is broader than what is documented. Windows on a VPS has to be installed by the customer under a trial licence.
