FindHost

HelioHost

A volunteer-run, donation-funded free web host with a paid tier alongside its free hosting.

Volunteer-run hosting, funded by donations.

HelioHost is a free web host run as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, staffed entirely by volunteers and funded by donations; its terms note that running the service is not free even though the hosting itself is. The free Johnny plan carries a domain allowance and a daily resource allowance, with no donation required; a one-time donation unlocks a second free server, Tommy, with a higher allowance. A paid plan, Morty, removes the daily resource caps for a small monthly fee, and a separate VPS product with root access sits above it.

Hosting runs on a Plesk control panel with PHP, Node.js, Python, Ruby on Rails, Java, .NET and Perl alongside MySQL, PostgreSQL and SQLite, plus Softaculous for installing site software. Servers run from a datacenter in Silicon Valley.

Worth knowing

The free plans are scoped to non-commercial use — hobby, development and personal sites, and registered non-profits — and federal restrictions mean HelioHost cannot serve or accept donations from Iran, Cuba or North Korea.
