Nodejitsu

Nodejitsu was the platform-as-a-service for Node.js applications, and for several years the default answer to where a Node application should be deployed. The company also maintained a good deal of the surrounding open source, including the npm private registry that later became npm Enterprise.

GoDaddy acquired it in February 2015 to rebuild its own infrastructure on Node, and Nodejitsu announced at the same time that it was leaving the platform business. The service was wound down over the months that followed, with the company pointing customers at other platforms during the transition. See GoDaddy for the acquirer’s record.

An acquisition for the team rather than for the product is the cleanest version of this story, and the one that gives customers the most notice. It ends the same way.
