Codeberg is operated by Codeberg e.V., a registered non-profit association in Berlin, and runs on Forgejo — free software built on git, which the association also develops. It describes itself as a non-commercial and privacy-friendly alternative to the commercial forges, and it is the reason there is a European answer to the question of where a repository lives.

Worth knowing

There are no plans to compare, which is why the pricing rows are empty rather than filled with a zero. The service is sustained by members and donations, so the thing to read before moving a project across is what the association asks of the people using it.

Nothing of a customer’s site runs here, so runtimes, deploy methods and shell access are not applicable, and no region is offered as a choice.
