## Notes

cloudControl was a Berlin platform-as-a-service, founded in 2009 and generally described as the first PaaS built in Europe. Applications were deployed by git push onto rented infrastructure, in the shape Heroku had made familiar, with add-ons for the pieces around the application. It was venture funded and ran a public platform alongside a licensed on-premises version.

In August 2014 it bought dotCloud from Docker, which had abandoned the hosting business to concentrate on the container tooling that grew out of it. That made cloudControl the owner of two platforms and of dotCloud's customers.

It filed for insolvency in January 2016, after a major customer cut back, and closed public operations at the end of February. Exoscale acquired the technology and parts of the team that April; the platform did not come back. Both platforms it ran are recorded here — see [dotCloud](/dotcloud/).
